Hotel tax collections up in Shenandoah The city of Shenandoah has seen con- tinued growth in its hotel occupancy tax collections since the height of the corona- virus pandemic, with a 23.6% increase in hotel tax collections in 2022-23 compared to 2021-22, according to a presentation at the Feb. 28 City Council meeting. Hotel occupancy tax collections fund local tourism e orts through Visit Shenandoah, encouraging visitor spending and contribut- ing to the city’s sales tax revenue.
Fire Station No. 5 rebuild to start this summer Work on the long-awaited Fire Station No. 5 and Emergency Training Center in The Woodlands is expected to begin construction this year, accord- ing to an update provided by Fire Chief Palmer Buck at the Feb. 28 meeting of The Woodlands Township board of directors. Two-minute impact Buck said construction on the re station and training center is slated to begin over the summer, with a groundbreaking to be scheduled in June. “We are within a week of signing a contract with Brookstone as our construction management,” Buck said on Feb. 28. What else? Director of Intergovernmental Relations Todd Stephens said the township would seek $1.5 million in federal appropriation funding through
