Silver Line now complete, opens stops in DFW Airport, near Grapevine
Another thing
TEXRail has seen the number of riders increase over the past four years, especially to the airport. In May 2025, Terminal B was the most popular stop, showing a 12.6% increase from 2024. Grape- Fest, a Grapevine wine festival, netted 5,000 rides in September, according to Trinity Metro data.
Airport. TEXRail’s best month in ridership came in December 2024 with 103,312 rides, up 25% from the previous year. The Fort Worth Parade of Lights and Christmas events were a key factor, according to Trinity Metro. “Grapevine has long been a welcoming destination for visitors from the west with TEXRail,” said Paul W. McCallum, director of the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Now, with the Silver Line, we’re excited to better connect with communities from the east, making it easier for visitors to indulge in culinary offerings, great shopping and entertainment.”
Nearly two decades after its initial conception, the 26-mile, $2 billion Silver Line commuter rail from transportation agency Dallas Area Rapid Transit is now open. As of Oct. 25, riders can hop on the train in Plano and travel to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in less than an hour. The Silver Line has two stations in Plano and eight additional stations that touch Richardson, Dallas, Addison, Carrollton, Coppell and Grapevine. Trips to Grapevine, the Christmas Capital of Texas, were a big boost for Trinity Metro’s TEXRail last year. TEXRail is a 27-mile track from the Fort Worth T&P Station to DFW

Ethridge Auto Center received a Colleyville grant in 2023 to update the 50-year-old building, co- owner Craig Tracy said. This grant was funded using TIF dollars. “People have told me how the building looks great now,” he said. “Prior to [the renovations,] it was an eyesore.” Ethridge Auto Center also applied for a TIF- funded city grant that allowed businesses to receive half the cost for holiday lights. “We want to be a positive partner with the community and keep the community beautiful,” said Jacquie Tracy, co-owner of Ethridge Auto Center. Since 2020, the city generated $35.7 million in revenue from TIF zones and spent $25.9 million on city projects, Wood said. “The TIF has been an important nancing tool for the city,” he said at the Nov. 5 Colleyville council meeting. “We’ve been able to fund a lot of infrastructure projects.” City ocials expanded the geographical zones to gain more TIF revenue and improve more areas in the city, Wood said.

uses, she said. Grapevine-Colleyville ISD will contribute $27.68 million in increased property taxes to the TIF fund through 2030, Ayala said Nov. 5. Tarrant County College will contribute $3.36 million until 2030. If the TIF revenue ended in 2030, Colleyville wouldn’t receive revenue from rising property val- ues in these zones because of the state’s tax cap, Colleyville City Manager Jerry Ducay said Nov. 5.
When a TIF zone is created, the value of the existing property is set as the zone’s base value, said Natalie Ayala, Colleyville’s TIF consultant. When the boundaries see new development, the value rises. The taxes generated above the base value nance projects within that zone. Ayala projected the amount of property taxes generated with new development from 2026-34 will be $344 million. These projections include a luxury resort hotel, retail, oces and industrial
Ocials detailed the $147.7 million plan, but the funds remain exible, Ayala said. The revenue will fund projects like the reconstruction of Cheek-Sparger Road, Wood said.

being around other people and having less maintenance. What are common misconceptions families may have about senior living? McKinnon: It’s not a nursing home. There’s free- dom in that lifestyle. Once a parent is established in a new community, they get more independence rather than less independence. Lamanna: We have various [tips] that we can introduce them to that will help them carry [certain] memories [if an item is] a piece that they can’t bring with them. What logistical advice do you have for those transitioning into senior living? McKinnon: There’s often maintenance on the home that hasn’t necessarily been kept up with. Types of communities
Colleyville
Independent-living communities cater to older adults with limited care needs. Most include amenities, such as fitness programs, housekeeping and communal meals. Assisted-living communities specialize in providing care and supervision. These facilities frequently offer a full range of amenities as well as limited medical assistance. Memory care facilities specialize in providing care to seniors with Alzheimer’s, dementia and other cognitive issues. Staff members are trained to help residents manage these diseases. Hospice care is intended to relieve symptoms and suffering associated with a terminal illness in those who have been given six months or less to live. The patient must choose to forgo further curative treatment. Nursing home/skilled nursing facilities provide care to those with illnesses or mental conditions requiring full- time monitoring and medical care.
