The Woodlands Edition | January 2025

TOWNSHIP Talk FROM THE BOARDROOM The Woodlands Township Board of Directors held their last regular meeting of the year on December 4, 2024, addressing key initiatives and community updates. Several significant items were approved, reflecting the Board’s commitment to maintaining and improving community services. Economic development took center stage as the Board accepted the annual report from The Woodlands Area Economic Development Partnership (EDP). Outgoing CEO Gil Staley highlighted job growth and successful business recruitment before announcing his successor, Jevon Gibb. The Board approved the 2025 service agreement with the EDP to continue driving economic growth. Amendments to park user fees and recreation facility hours were adopted following a public hearing. The Board also cast votes for appraisal district board elections and extended agreements with lobbying firms to support legislative priorities. Appointments were made to key committees, including the Development Standards Committee, Audit Committee and the One Water Task Force. Terms for the Ad Hoc Economic Development and Government Relations Committees were extended, and the 2025 meeting schedule was approved. Updates from the Development Standards Committee and the Village Presidents’ Council highlighted efforts to maintain high community standards and address resident needs. Routine items, including annual service agreements with local organizations, were also approved as part of the Consent Agenda. Board meetings are typically scheduled on the third Thursday and fourth Wednesday of each month. Residents are encouraged to attend meetings and provide public comments. Meetings are streamed live on the Township website and a meeting recap, The Boardroom Briefing , is emailed one to two business days after each meeting. The Board is planning to hold a strategic planning workshop during the first quarter of 2025.

JANUARY 2025 - INFORMATION PROVIDED BY THE WOODLANDS TOWNSHIP

NEW PERMIT FEES The Woodlands Township has implemented a fee structure for specific permit types. The new system features two tiers: base services, such as fence or tree removal permits, and enhanced services, such as pool or patio permits.

Base services, which cover routine permits requiring minimal resources, will remain free to ensure accessibility for residents engaging in standard activities. This approach reflects the Township’s dedication to providing essential services without imposing additional financial burdens. Enhanced services—involving complex reviews, specialized consultations, or extensive administrative processes—will incur fees to recover the resources needed for these tasks. Community members can apply for permits on the Township’s website using the Civic Access Portal.

Since 1977, The Woodlands has shared over 1.5 million tree seedlings with residents, connecting the community to nature and nurturing a greener future. This year, join one of our longest-standing traditions by planting trees that will shade and inspire for generations. On Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 9 a.m. to noon at Rob Fleming Park , residents can pick up one or more of 12 featured native tree seedlings.
