Council makes changes to public comment Conroe City Council voted to change the public comment procedures in a 3-1 vote during a Jan. 6 special meeting. Council member Howard Wood was absent, and Mayor Pro Tem Harry Hardman voted against the agenda item. What you need to know During the special meeting, City Council approved changes to the rules and procedures for City Council’s 2024-26 term. Among the changes, “speakers are limited to addressing only topics on the current agenda,” according to the document included in the Jan. 6 agenda. Previously, public comments were open to any topic. During the discussion of the changes, Mayor Duke Coon said he will not enforce the new rule—which will go into effect at the next council meeting—and will pay the $1,500 fine for viola- tions himself.

Conroe City Council approved selling the Sam Houston Elementary building for $4.3 million to Overland Property Group during its Jan. 6 special meeting. The gist Overland Property Group has plans to turn it into a multifamily rental housing develop- ment, according to the agenda item. City Council approved the $4.3 million sale with the contingency of Overland Property Group securing grant funds.
