The place for Pioneer in
In March we highlight the women who helped shape Georgetown, including sisters Sipriana “Chip” and Jovita Richarte , who were two of the first women of color to graduate from a licensed vocational nurse training program in 1964. The program was started in Georgetown by doctors Douglas Benold, James Shepherd, and Hal Gaddy. Georgetown ISD’s Richarte High School is named after Chip, and Jovita, who recently passed away, worked for many years at Georgetown Hospital.
