Collin College OKs prep for new health science center
Over $2M to be invested in campuses McKinney ISD is continuing work on two of its campuses, Evans Middle School and McKinney Boyd High School, as part of the district’s 2021 bond program. District trust- ees approved two refresh phases Feb. 24. Project details McKinney Boyd’s $1.01 million refresh phase includes the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system; painting; plumbing; and miscellaneous replacement items. Evans Middle has previously undergone ceiling replacements, fire alarm upgrades, parking lot restriping, and HVAC upgrades. It’s next refresh phase of $1.13 million includes painting, plumbing and general construction, according to the agenda. Work will begin at both campuses on the last day of school in May, the agenda stated.
Collin College has taken another step toward the creation of a new health sciences center at the college system’s Frisco campus. College trustees approved a guaranteed maxi- mum price of $11.31 million for prepping the site for construction during a Feb. 25 meeting. Work includes site work, path preparation, underground utilities and pouring slab, Executive Vice President Bill King said during the meeting. The pricing agreement also included $4.13 million for contingency funding. The contingency fees are higher due to the potential tariffs that could affect construction, he said. “We just don’t know what’s going to hit us in the next couple of months,” King said. About the project The project is estimated to cost approximately $70 million and is expected to open in spring 2027. The 120,000-square-foot center will provide more space for the college’s current health science

The facility will also create spaces for new imag- ing and diagnostic programs that will serve the growing health care sector in northwestern Collin County, Smith said.
