HIGHLIGHTS FROM THIS MONTH

FROM AMY: As more technology companies locate to the area, some are settling in the suburbs, and the region’s growth has certainly been spurred by these local jobs. With that, the roads are more traveled and require improvements, expansions and even new routes. Our top story in our first edition 17 years ago featured a transportation story, and we have provided updates on road projects ever since. We hope you enjoy reading about both the semiconductor industry and getting updates on major road projects in this issue. Amy Leonard Bryant, GENERAL MANAGER

FROM BRIAN: In this issue we have compiled a noncomprehensive guide to senior living facilities in Round Rock, Pflugerville and Hutto (see Pages 26-27). Included are several residential options for senior adults who need a range of specialty services from memory care to assisted living to hospice care. Also in the guide are facilities for independent living. Brian Rash, SENIOR EDITOR

and in North Central [Austin on Braker Lane],” Rivera said. CommUnityCare provides a variety of medical services for a reduced cost at 28 centers throughout Travis County, primarily for uninsured and low-income patients. CommUnityCare oers general primary care, dental care, pediatric care and behavioral health services, although the specic services oered vary from location to location. CommUnityCare CEO Jaeson Fournier said the location for the new center was based in part on data that shows Pugerville has a high number of uninsured or underinsured residents. “[Pugerville] has consistently been—from CommUnityCare’s perspective—No. 1 or No. 2 of the highest-need ZIP codes in the area,” Fournier said. “This is going to allow us to increase our footprint here in Pugerville by threefold.”

Central Texas nonprot CommUni- tyCare Health Centers will open a new 15,000-square-foot health center in Pugerville, replacing its Pugerville health center on Foothill Farms Loop. Leadership from CommUnityCare held a groundbreaking ceremony Oct. 20 for the new center, located at 2700 W. Pecan St., Ste. 450, Pugerville. The facility is expected to be ready to open in early 2023. The new center is a substantial upgrade over CommUnityCare’s 3,500-square-foot facility in Pugerville, which it shares with Travis County. Senior Practice Administrator Chris- topher Rivera said the additional space will allow CommUnityCare to bring on more family medicine providers as well as providers for pediatrics and dentistry. “Coming to this new location ... will alleviate a lot of the overcrowding here

HEALTH CARE Several area hospitals expanding to meet growing local need

BY CARSON GANONG

according to a press release. The St. David’s Round Rock expan- sion, which is expected to be com- plete sometime in 2023, comes as part of a larger $953 million investment in expanding St. David’s hospitals across Central Texas. Regarding expansions for BSW, on Oct. 4 the Williamson County Commissioners Court approved a resolution to issue $55 million in bond funds for an expansion of the BSW medical center at 2600 E. Pugerville Parkway in Pugerville and $200 million in bond funds to expand the BSW medical center at 300 University Blvd. in Round Rock. Gabe Martinez, senior public rela- tions consultant for BSW, said details are not yet available for the Puger- ville expansion, but the Round Rock expansion will add 165,000 square feet and include the construction of a 10-bed neonatal intensive care unit, 30 new labor and delivery rooms, and 30 new medical-surgical rooms. Even though Williamson County ocials approved the issuance of $255 million in bond funds for the expansions, Martinez said cost estimates are still not set. He added the Round Rock facility expansion will be complete in 2024. Barclay said hospital expansions, such as those at St. David’s and BSW, will remain crucial as area popula- tions continue to boom. “It denitely makes me excited to know that many more people will be able to seek health care within our community,” he said.

A pair of large-scale medical center expansions at St. David’s HealthCare and Baylor Scott & White Health facilities in Round Rock are planned over the next two years. An expansion at St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center will cost about $53.1 million and bring two additional oors to the center’s main hospital. St. David’s CEO Jeremy Barclay said the expansion will help St. David’s keep up with the increasing need for health care in Williamson County as Round Rock and nearby cities continue to grow. “Over the past couple years, we have certainly noticed an increase in demand for health care services, like we have with housing and everything else,” Barclay said. One of the new oors will house a 34-bed intermediate patient care unit, and the other will be a shell space for future expansion. The expansion will also create space for four new operating rooms in the hospital’s surgical suite that will be used for specialty services, such as neurosurgery and oncology. Barclay said the fourth oor will contain another 34 intermediate care beds when built out. “We added additional [intensive care unit] beds last year, so we were able to help with that demand, … and the biggest need we have now is for that middle level of care,” he said. St. David’s expects to hire approx- imately 60 employees over the next two years to ll the new space,

Voters approve nearly all PfISD ballot propositions

HIGHLIGHTS PFLUGERVILLE ISD With a total of 25,628 students, PfISD’s enrollment was 233 students below the projected level as of Nov. 11. Ocials said enrollment levels often uctuate throughout the school year, and the district could still meet its enrollment goal. HUTTO ISD Construction on Gus Almquist Middle School, HISD’s third middle school, is scheduled to begin in December following the board of trustees’ approval of a $7.55 million construction contract. The school is expected to be complete in May 2024. Pugerville ISD board of trustees meets Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. 1401 W. Last year, it was 94.38% in the second six weeks. 92% APPROVED NOV. 10 TO BE PAID OUT IN DECEMBER

RESULTS OF THE ELECTION Of the eight ballot measures that came before Pugerville ISD voters on Nov. 8, all but one passed. Here is a breakdown of the results for each proposition:

BY CARSON GANONG

Proposition A: Attendance Credit Election Passed with 61.74% in favor

In Pugerville ISD’s Nov. 8 election, all but one of the district’s eight ballot measures passed. The approved propositions included an attendance credit election, or ACE, and a voter approval tax rate election, or VATRE. The approval of the ACE will allow the district to pay its anticipated $12.1 million recapture bill to the state. Had the proposition failed, the Texas Education Agency would have determined how to detach $12.1 million in property valuation from PfISD. The VATRE passing means the district will be able to keep its adopted tax rate of $1.2646 per $100 valuation. The election was required because the adopted rate exceeds the voter approval rate of $0.8646. The remaining six propositions comprised a $367.6 million bond package broken into six pieces. Only one initiative failed: Proposition F, a $400,000 bond measure that would have funded audio wiring at The Peld and new scoreboards at Hendrickson High School. The $367.2 million approved by voters will fund projects, including districtwide safety and security upgrades, a new career and technical education center, and construction of aordable housing for PfISD teachers. “I’d like to thank our community for their support and all the voters who carved out time to go to the polls,” Superin- tendent Doug Killian said. “The passage of these proposi- tions shows that our community prioritizes education, kids and teachers.” In putting together the bond propositions that would come before voters in November, district ocials assem- bled a committee of community members and district sta to help assess and prioritize the district’s long-term facility needs. The citizens facilities advisory committee, or CFAC, met eight times over the course of the year before the bond proposals were nalized. “The bond program was the result of thorough and thoughtful planning by our board of trustees and the district’s CFAC, and I am so grateful for their time and dedication to our students,” Killian said.

Proposition B: Voter Approval Tax Rate Election Passed with 51.84% in favor

Proposition C: $190.28M for districtwide campus improvements, including security upgrades Passed with 59.84% in favor

Proposition D: $54M for devices for students and sta, and related infrastructure Passed with 59.92% in favor

Proposition E: $3M for high school performing arts renovations and sound system upgrades Passed with 56.66% in favor

Proposition F: $400,000 for Peld audio wiring and Hendrickson High School scoreboards Failed with 46.53% in favor

Proposition G: $76M for districtwide career and technical education center Passed with 57.01% in favor
