Metroport Meals on Wheels brings joy to local seniors
Sadie’s, a consignment shop, donates all its proceeds to Metroport Meals on Wheels.
“[These] meals brought peace of mind for both as well as stress relief for [the daughter],” King said. State Farm insurance agent Bill Tait o ered a promotion in partnership with Dirty Dough Southlake to give funds to the nonpro t. “My dad and I used to deliver when I was a kid,” he said. “It is about companionship and someone to talk to; seniors struggle with no family or anything around.” How to help Metroport Meals on Wheels is always looking for volunteers to deliver meals, King said. Sadie’s, a resale store, generates funds for the nonpro t by donating proceeds from merchandise sold, according to its website.
Metroport Meals on Wheels’ volunteers bring warm meals to anyone who can’t cook a meal themselves. “The personal connection between the vol- unteers and the participants is huge,” Executive Director Mary King said. Meals are dropped o to homes ve days a week to people in northeast Tarrant County, King said. Meals come from partners including Central Market in Southlake. The impact One participant of the program su ered from terminal breast cancer and lived with her single daughter, King said. The nonpro t provided meals to the mother while her daughter worked.
