Town Hall Plaza Project: Work includes upgrading underground utilities for increased electricity, adding food truck pad sites, adding bollards for traffic control, addressing the pond and the condition of the retaining wall, and drainage concerns. Update: Southlake Town Council decided to use natural grass for the project at a total cost of $1.63 million over 15 years. Council also decided not to include restrooms in the park. • Timeline: designs for the project are 30% complete • Cost: $13 million-$34 million • Funding source: Southlake’s capital improvement project funds Pickering Park, Banyan Park, Austin Oaks Park Project: The Grapevine City Council approved a contract to replace the playground equipment at three city parks at the June 3 meeting. Update: All the park renovations have been completed, replacing previous equipment that were 16 years or 17 years old, according to previous reporting. • Timeline: Completed • Cost: $335,749 • Funding source: city of Grapevine Quality-of-Life Fund This list is not comprehensive.
Colleyville Splash Pad Project: The Colleyville Recreation Center will be renovated to include a splash pad and kids playground. Update: The project is currently in the design phase. • Timeline: approximately two years to complete • Cost: $1.65 million • Funding source: Colleyville’s capital utility fund, parkland dedication fund, parks tomorrow fund, voluntary park fund Harmony Park Pickleball Courts Project: Six new pickleball courts were added to Harmony Park in Trophy Club. Other updated amenities include two new bocce ball courts and one new basketball court. Update: The courts are now open for public use. • Timeline: Completed • Cost: $1.12 million • Funding source: city of Trophy Club’s Capital Improvement Projects Fund
Update: Phase one of the project is now complete, which included a trail, pavilion, elevated board walk, restroom, and a fishing pier, said Chris Smith, Grapevine’s director of parks and recreation. Design work is currently in the process for phase two, which will include more hiking trails, expanding the fishing pier and a boat launch at the pond. • Timeline: TBD • Cost: $4.65 million • Funding source: grants, city of Grapevine The Grapevine REC Project: The Grapevine Recreation Center will receive renovations and expansions on the fitness center, classroom spaces, child-watch rooms and office rooms, Smith said. This will include a walking track, workout room, basketball courts and aquatics. Update: The project is currently in the design phase. • Timeline: TBD • Cost: $12 million-$14 million • Funding source: TBD
These eight park updates in Grapevine, Colleyville and Southlake include updates to Settlement Park in Grapevine and the installation of a Texas Tree Trail in Colleyville. Texas Tree Trail Project: The tree trail will be located behind the Colleyville senior living facility, where a trail is already in place, and will include different types of trees. Update: Colleyville staff recently finished installing irrigation. The first round of trees are expected to be planted later this winter and into the spring. • Timeline: 3-5 years to complete • Cost: $400,000 • Funding source: Colleyville capital projects fund, Colleyville voluntary park fund, grants Settlers Park Project: Settlers Park includes 15.9 acres of pedestrian trails, nature trails, boardwalks, pavilion, terraced seating, primitive camping, an overlook, picnic facilities and a fishing pier.
Heroes Park Project: Heroes Park will include heroes’ walls to honor soldiers from World War I and World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and modern wars since 1990. The park will include green space, walkways and plazas, sculptures, a stage and water walls.
