Khalidi looked for retail spaces in the Frisco and McKin- ney area and settled on a 1,539-square- foot location in the Asian-centric development Frisco Ranch. Cauldron Ice Cream serves custom, made-to-order ice cream that is frozen using liquid nitrogen. The establishment is known for its Puffle Cones, which is a bubble waffle cone, according to Khalidi. The Frisco location will be the rst to debut a new restaurant de- sign from The Halal Guys’ corporate team. The build-out process for a Crumbl store is eight weeks, so Burnham said he expects a fall open- ing date. He has a goal to keep growing the company into other parts of North Texas, Burnham said. FEATURED IMPACT IN THE NEWS The world of country music will come to Frisco in 2023 as the Ford Center hosts the 58th Academy of Country Music Awards. The 2023 show, which will be held May 11, will be livestreamed globally, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. “It’s going to have a signicant impact on the entire region hosting this event,” said Josh Dill, director of sports and events at Visit Frisco. The 58th ACM Awards will be the rst nationally televised award show to take place at the Ford Center, according to Dill. The Star in Frisco surrounds the Ford Center and includes the Dallas Cowboys world headquarters, restaurants, retail and an Omni Hotel. The Ford Center is the result of a public-private partnership among the Dallas Cowboys, the cost $8.5 million and will be located at 7101 Warren Parkway, Frisco, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations. The bank is one of 28 new locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro- plex, with plans for three in the Frisco area. A spokesperson for the company said Frost Bank wanted a larger presence in the Dallas area. ONGOING PROJECTS 1 Coit Road reconstruction

As work on the rst portion of Coit Road wraps up, crews are busy with the next part of the project to widen the road. Earlier this spring the nishing touches were placed on a project that widens Coit from A SH 121 to Main Street from four lanes to six lanes. Trees that were in the median of Coit south of Main Street were removed, and the ones that could be transplanted were moved to various city parks and other public spaces. In January, crews began the second phase of construction, which adds a third lane in both the northbound and southbound lanes on Coit from B Main to Buckeye Drive. The project will also include Frisco’s rst pedestrian hybrid beacon at Hay River Trail, according to a city news video. The beacon will be activated by pedestrians when they need to cross the intersection. It will turn yellow to slow trac, then red to stop drivers and allow pedestrians safe passage. After a set time has elapsed, the light will ash red and then will turn dark until they are activated again. The goal of the beacon is to help people get to and from Maus Middle School. Work in this section is scheduled to be completed at the end of this year or early next. The nal portion of the Coit project will have crews working from C Buckeye Drive to US 380. The city is in the design portion of this part of the project, and the

Stormwater crew combats beaver dam buildup with ‘beaver deceiver’

After watching a video, Smith and his team recreated the leveler with materials, such as piping, that they already had in-house for about $50. “The water ows through the pipe,” Smith said. “We built a structure that would protect the end of the pipe from being clogged [and prevent] debris being built up by beavers.” The team removed the dam and in January installed the pond leveler, nicknamed “the beaver deceiver,” in the creek. The goal of the device is to help people coexist with wildlife, Harts said. “Beavers play a role in our ecosys- tem, they just cause a problem when their ecosystem meets the manmade world, like trails and things like that,” Harts said. “We think the pond leveler is much less harmful to the beavers than picking them up in metal cages and taking them somewhere.”

The Frisco Public Works Depart- ment’s stormwater crews got crafty at the Cottonwood Creek in north Frisco after receiving a call last year that a beaver dam was causing water to ood a nearby jogging trail. Frisco Stormwater Manager Perry Harts said the city gets at least one call a month to remove beaver dams that cause water to collect in unwanted areas. After city oficials remove the debris, they know if it was caused by a beaver if the debris “just magically reappears, ” Harts said. This was the case with the buildup in Cottonwood Creek. Crews led by Supervisor Brandon Smith with assistance from the city’s Natural Resources group researched and decided to build a pond leveler, which is a device that allows water to continue to ow and prevents a

On June 16, Dallas was announced as one of 16 North American cities to host World Cup matches in the summer of 2026. In the bid to bring the World Cup to Dallas, AT&T Stadium in Arlington was designated to serve as the site for soccer matches, and the Toyota Stadium and Toyota Sports Complex in Frisco were allocated as spaces for practicing and could act as a “base- camp” for a participating team. Dallas is also in the running to become the international broadcast center as well as referee training and headquarters, according to the Dallas Sports Commission’s website. “People pay a lot of attention to

City Council approves agreement for 45-acre oce campus project FRISCO City Council passed a master develop- ment agreement July 5 for an oce park called SouthStone Yards that will oer 1.1 million square feet of space across four buildings. The agreement among the city of Frisco, the Frisco Economic Development Corp., the Frisco Community Development Corp. and Crow Hold- ings will allow Crow Holdings Oce to construct four Class A oce buildings and accompanying parking structures at the northeast corner of SH 121 and Spring Creek Parkway. “This project will bring much-needed oce space to help our very full pipeline of prospects,” said Gloria Salinas, vice president of the Frisco Economic Development Corp., during the meeting. SouthStone Yards will be completed in four phases with four oce buildings and parking structures. These will span the 45-acre site. The rst building is slated to open in December 2024, and the project will conclude with the opening of Building 4 in December 2030.

Speed limits reduced on two Frisco roadways FRISCO The city of Frisco unanimously voted to lower speed limits from 50 mph to 45 mph on sections of Coit Road and Dallas Parkway during a July 5 City Council meeting.
