City Council approves zoning request for multifamily housing Additional housing in the Sam Bass corridor can move forward after a rezoning request was approved by Round Rock City Council on July 27. What’s happening Round Rock ocials approved a request to rezone 8.51 acres of land at the intersection of Sam Bass Road and Meadows Drive. The land was pre- viously zoned for public facilities, such as assisted living, government services, medical clinics, places of worship, schools and public oces. The property was formerly owned by Freedom Church but was recently sold to a residential developer, said Brad Wiseman, Round Rock’s director of planning and development services.

Wyndham Hotel to bring extended stay brand to Round Rock Wyndham Hotel is planning to bring a new ECHO Suites location to Round Rock. The gist The ECHO Suites Extended Stay by Wyndham is expected to go in at 1485 Meister Lane, Round Rock. Plans for the new hotel come as Wyndham Hotels and Resorts announced an expansion of its ECHO Suites portfolio in late July. A Wynd- ham spokesperson said construction on the hotel will begin later this year. The breakdown Timeline: to open in late 2024 Size: Four stories, 124 guest rooms Cost: $13.5 million

City’s Lake Creek Trail construction greenlit Construction on the next phase of a trail connection project bridging Round Rock West Park and Centennial Plaza in the city’s downtown is expected to begin later this year. Current situation Round Rock City Council voted July 27 to approve a $2.46 million contract for the construc- tion of a 1-mile stretch of trail connecting Round Rock West Park and Centennial Plaza, awarding it to Muniz Concrete and Contracting. How we got here The trail connection was designed using 2013 bond funding and will be tied into the Chisholm Trail. This trail connection will not connect to the Greater Lake Creek Trail that runs through east central Round Rock. However, it is part of the city’s larger eort to expand its trail system,

Long story short The city’s comprehensive land use plan shows this property is compatible with low-density multifamily, Wiseman said, as long as certain criteria are met: • The development would have access through an arterial roadway or collector street. • Access to nearby single-family neighborhoods is discouraged except for transportation needs or if it were to be part of a master-planned community. • The development will not be adjacent to another low-density multifamily project.
