Proposed property tax rate would fund new jobs Round Rock’s proposed maximum property tax rate for fiscal year 2023-24 would allow the city to hire additional staff, should City Council vote to adopt the rate $0.342 per $100 valuation. The overview The proposed tax rate is the same as last year’s. However, it exceeds the no-new-revenue rate of $0.316, meaning a public hearing must be held. The no-new-revenue rate is the rate at which the city would generate the same amount of property tax revenue as it did the previous fiscal year before taking into account newly built properties. The increased revenue from this new rate, the first reading of which was unanimously approved by Council Aug. 24, would help pay for 12 new public safety positions and a competitive pay program as well as 12 positions and supporting costs for parks and the Round Rock Public Library.

New filters to boost sewage treatment A year after excess water flowing into a regional wastewater treatment facility resulted in disturbances to Brushy Creek, Round Rock officials aim to improve the plant’s filtration. Current situation Round Rock officials July 27 approved a $1.6 million purchase for tertiary filters to be used at Brushy Creek Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility East Plant, which is cur- rently undergoing expansion to accommo- date the area’s growing populations. Once the expansion comes online in September, city officials say the plant will be able to accommodate up to 30 million gallons of wastewater per day. Based on the increased capacity, stricter regulations will make the additional filtration of effluent necessary.
