Commission OKs site plan for $48.5M school updates

RISD committee recommends VATRE Richardson ISD residents may see a voter-approval tax rate election this year in an eort to address budgetary shortfalls. The Community Budget Steering Commit- tee made several recommendations for the RISD board of trustees to consider to address nancial challenges the district faces. The specics The committee recommended the board hold a VATRE—a specially-called election where school districts ask voters to increase their maintenance and operation tax rate above state-mandated thresholds—in November 2025 to adjust the tax rate by $0.0317. According to a presentation to the board, the increase would generate a net revenue of $7.4 million, which would help address gaps in the district budget.

A site plan for major renovations to Plano East Senior High has been approved by the Plano Planning and Zoning Commission. What you need know Commissioners voted to approve the plan at the commission’s Dec. 16 meeting. Major renovations to Plano East costing $48.5 million will be funded by Plano ISD’s 2022 bond, and will include the following: • Two additional gyms • Several athletic facility improvements • Turf replacement at the baseball and softball elds • Building renovations to heating, ventilation and air conditioning, restrooms and more • Relocation of the tennis courts The renovations are expected to be completed in November 2026, according to PISD’s website.

The planning and zoning commission approved a site plan for renovations at Plano East Senior High School.
