Cibolo eyes traffic calming program

Cibolo staff is working on a Neighborhood Traffic Management Program, which would serve as a tool for residents to petition for management devices on their streets. The details The program will require 60% of residents in the affected area to support the installa- tion of a device. Tools residents may be able to request under the program include speed cushions, traffic circles and electronic speed signs. Officials will hold discussions in upcoming budget meetings on allocating funds to man- agement requests submitted by residents. City manager Wayne Reed said the city also has an opportunity to pursue grant and additional funding sources to help with some of the projects.

The awarded contract amount was about $5.31 million and not to exceed a little over $5.57 million. The project is funded through city sales tax. City Administrator Johnny Casias said in antic- ipation of University Health breaking ground on a new hospital, and Judson ISD constructing a new elementary school along Retama Parkway, City Council budgeted the road project for construc- tion in fiscal year 2023-24. Grayson Cox with KSA Engineers said if the con- tractor is able to do both projects at the same time

without delay, then they may be able to do that. Otherwise, the roads will be under construction at different times with Retama Parkway prioritized. The project is expected to begin in mid- May. Retama Parkway from Lookout Road to I-35 Frontage Road will take an estimated six months for construction to complete, and Alton Boulevard from Mount Crest Drive to Chippewa Boulevard will take an estimated three months to complete, Cox said.
