JISD approves middle school graduation policy The Judson ISD board of trustees on April 18 approved a policy update for the promotion of middle school students to the next grade level. Two-minute impact Under the new policy, students in grades 6-8 can be promoted by having an overall average of 70 for all subject areas combined, and a grade of 70 or above in three of the following areas: • English Language Arts and Reading • Mathematics • Science • Social Studies Students can make below a 70 in one of the four core classes as long as their overall average is above a 70. This action follows a lawsuit started by Kingsville ISD and other districts against the Texas Education Agency over a lack of transparency and failure to give districts ade- quate notice about changes made to the way accountability ratings are calculated under the new A-F accountability ratings system. By passing the resolution, SCUCISD can show support for the other districts part of the litigation without the financial burden of filing a lawsuit, according to the April 16 agenda. School districts across the state have adopted similar resolutions in support of the lawsuit.
