Special Angels serves adults with special needs
Taleen Movses, who has worked at Special Angels of The Woodlands since 2023, said working with clients has left a major, positive impact on her life. Special Angels of The Woodlands is a faith-driven nonpro t organization serving adults 18 and up with intellectual and developmental disabilities through a day activity center. It has been serving the community for 22 years and provides services such as enrichment groups for individualized skills and socialization activi- ties, fellowship and community outings. How it’s going When the facility rst opened, sta kept a roster of 20 clients, but it’s now up to 25 clients with the goal of 75, Movses said. Before clients are accepted into the program,
they go through an assessment to nd their level of need and cost to attend. The levels of need are state mandated and range from Level 1 for individuals who are mostly independent, to Level 8, which includes those who are blind, unable to walk and need full assistance. Daily activities vary but can include math skills, outdoor activities, dancing and eld trips. Lend a hand Special Angels depends on donations from the community to help reduce the nancial burden on families in the program as well as volunteers for daily operations. The board of directors created an Adopt an Angel program to help with tuition assistance for families in need. Angels spend $25 a day to attend the day center.
