Round Rock completes Sports Center expansion A new and improved Round Rock Sports Center was completed in mid-November, after the city completed a $17.5 million expansion project stem- ming from a 2023 voter-approved bond package. What’s new The expansion added two full basketball courts that brings the center’s total to eight. The new courts are designed for exibility, allowing the facility to switch to 16 volleyball courts or run simultaneous events. Upgrades also include a secondary entrance, expanded championship seating, more surface parking and a touchless Amazon retail store that lets visitors buy snacks without a cashier. Chad McKenzie, the city’s director of sports management and tourism, said Round Rock may further expand the facility to 14 basketball courts and 28 volleyball courts.
Old Settlers Park pavilion now open The new Lakeview Stage and Pavilion in Round Rock opened on Nov. 15, one of the rst major amenities completed in a multi- year overhaul of Old Settlers Park. The gist The project is part of a broader $147 million, voter-approved plan to modernize Old Settlers Park and prepare it for growth.

How we got here The Sports Center, which hosts tournaments and league sports throughout the year, sees over 70,000 players and 120,000 spectators each year. Since 2014, more than $210 million in economic activity through sports tourism has been gener- ated for the city. In May 2023, Round Rock voters approved a $274 million bond package, which included a proposi- tion for several recreation and sports projects.
