While McKinney ISD students outpaced state averages on all end-of-course State of Texas Assessments of Academic Read- iness, district students’ scores dipped in most subjects from 2023 to 2024. STAAR scores were published by the Texas Education Agency in June. The gist Students are tested in five subject areas—algebra I, biology, English I and II, and U.S. history. Four performance levels are used to measure a student’s score: • Did not meet grade level means a students has not shown sufficient understanding of the subject matter and skills. • Approaches grade level means the student has some gaps in the content knowledge. This is still a passing score. • Meets grade level means a student has a strong under- standing of the content. • Masters grade level means the student has shown mastery of the course. McKinney ISD sees decreases in STAAR scores

Two campuses to see renovations

As part of McKinney ISD’s 2021 bond program, additions and renovations for two campuses will be completed following school board approval July 22. Johnson Middle School will see additions including 16 new classrooms and a band hall with ensemble rooms and practice rooms. The project will be

completed by Corgan Architects and will cost $18.56 million. Renovations at McKinney Boyd include adding changing rooms and storage rooms to the per- forming arts wing of the campus. The campus’s art room and dance room will also be renovated. The project by Crossland Construction is estimated to cost $3.25 million.
