MEETINGSWE COVER CITY HIGHLIGHTS WEST LAKEHILLS New police ocer Erika DeVaun was sworn into the West Lake Hills police force at the March 23 City Council meeting. Ocers Robert Allensworth, Jared Mathis and Aaron Ozuna also were promoted to corporal during the meeting. At the same meeting, council also approved the purchase of land at 4010 Bee Caves Road for a city administration building.

Bee Cave council OKs stipends for police BEE CAVE Police ocers who work o-hours shifts, are bilingual and train other ocers in the eld will see some extra pay in their checks after City Council unanimously agreed to stipend payments. Police Chief Brian Jones requested the stipends at the council’s March 22 meeting. Jones said the pay is consistent with other area law enforcement agencies, such as Buda and Rollingwood. The o-hours, or shift dierential, pay covers ocers working from 6 p.m.-6 a.m.

BEE CAVE The police soon will have another investigative tool at their disposal after City Council unanimously approved the pur- chase of two cameras that read license plates. Mayor Kara King requested the council address the issue of install- ing cameras at Central Park at the Hill Country Galleria after seeing social media posts in neighborhood community groups online. Although the posts expressed concern about crime in the park, Police Chief Brian Jones said cases of criminal activity in the area are down to nine cases this year from 14 year to date in 2021 and 12 year to date in 2020. City Manager Clint Garza said if surveillance cameras were installed, he would recommend regulations on what would prompt authorities to pull footage. “We can’t be pulling footage for

every scraped knee,” he said. Jones said common criminal activity in the area involves break- ins, especially of cars that have been left unlocked. He said those visiting the Galleria often develop a false sense of security. He said license plate readers help law enforcement narrow down which vehicles were in an area when a crime was committed and have produced investigative leads where they have been used in other parts of the city.
