UPCOMING PROJECT Hwy. 242 widening between I-45 and FM 1488 The Texas Department of Transporta- tion has proposed widening Hwy. 242 from FM 1488 to I-45, adding an east- bound and westbound lane. It would also reduce the existing vegetated median by 20 feet, converting it to a raised median. Three detention basins would also be constructed along Hwy. 242, which would require an additional 21 acres of right of way. According to TxDOT, Hwy. 242 would consist of six 12-foot lanes with 10- foot shoulders under the proposed plan. A prerecorded presentation can be viewed at www.txdot.gov. According to The Woodlands Township, the project will require the township to develop a landscape plan for TxDOT to implement according to township standards as well an increase to street- scape maintenance costs. Timeline: TBD Cost: $40 million Funding sources: federal funds, TxDOT Widening is planned on Hwy. 242. VANESSA HOLTCOMMUNITY IMPACT NEWSPAPER
