The overview The nonprot was formed in 1974. In 1978, Meals on Wheels Denton County was added as a service. In the 2000s, Span introduced Senior Paws, which provides free pet food to seniors. Span also oers free transportation services for veterans. Span’s goal is to enable people to live as fully and independently as possible by oering services to older people, those with disabilities, veterans and the public. The set up Meals on Wheels is federally funded and meals must meet federal nutritional requirements, McMa- hon said. Volunteers have the same route every week, allowing a relationship to be established. “A lot of times that is the only human interaction they have that day,” McMahon said. “It serves so many purposes.” Lend a hand There are many ways to get involved and McMa- hon said they are happy to consider all oers of help. There is also a need for volunteers. “Our volunteers are some of the most beautiful humans on the planet,” she said. “They have such a heart for what they do.”

In addition to bringing a nutritious meal to seniors, Meals on Wheels volunteers also provide a link to the community.
