BACODA continues ght against substance abuse For the past 50 years, the Bay Area Council on Drugs and Alcohol, or BACODA, has worked to prevent alcohol and substance abuse in 13 south- east Texas counties through education, referrals to health care providers and other social services. A closer look The primary issue in Galveston County, said Director of Coalitions Melissa Igo, are opioid over- doses. In all counties, Igo said underaged drinking is a focus for BACODA and its collaborators. The nonprot provides its services to the Bay Area community at-large—where many of the group’s sta have generational roots. “There’s some type of personal connection,” said Dannielle Meyer, director of communications for BACODA. “We are making sure our communities and the people who live in them have every oppor- tunity for success.”

BACODA sta has been working for 50 years to stop the usage of drugs and alcohol, and promote mental health.
