The 6,700-square- foot structure sits on 6.6 acres of farmland and cost an estimated $2.3 million to build. The facility will also host multiple parks and recreation youth programs throughout the year. Located at 1000 Southcreek Drive in Kinningham Park, the facility will be available for public use in the fall, according to city information.

June declared Pride Month by officials ROUND ROCK City officials declared June National Pride Month in Round Rock during a May 12 council meeting. The city also planned to hold its first Pride Festival in Centennial Plaza June 4. In an official proclamation, Mayor Craig Morgan described the city as a “community of differences” and said its diversity is a strength. Referencing recent divisiveness in national narratives over the last couple of years, Morgan said the city would not tolerate hatred. “We don’t all have to agree ... on everything. But we still can be friends. I just want that to be heard,” Morgan said. Richard Parson, the city’s arts and culture ambassador and an active member of multiple community organizations, is the founder of Round Rock Pride. A longtime resident of the city, he said at the meeting that he did not take lightly the proclamation and what it represents. “This is my forever home,” Parson said. “You know how much I love it if you’ve talked to me. I want to pledge to you that as Round Rock grows, so will Round Rock Pride.”

Enhancement team receives initial approval from Round Rock City Council

ROUND ROCK Officials gave initial approval for a budget amendment to create a coordi- nated city cleanliness effort. City Council approved the $194,460 budget amendment creating and funding the Round Rock Community Enhancement Team during a May 12 meeting. Funding for the initiative comes from excess local sales tax revenue, according to the city. The budget amendment to fund the initiative requires two readings, and final approval will go before council at a later meeting.

Once operational, the team will facilitate tidiness of the community through trash and debris pickup; spraying and pulling weeds; trimming tree limbs; and coordinating monthly department clean- ups. City documents state this supports “quality of place,” in line with the city’s strategic goal of making Round Rock a great community in which to live. The move will create two new full-time positions with the city and allow for a depart- mental vehicle, trailer, mowers and street vacuum purchases.
