Lone Star Santas distributes toys in Round Rock to local families a ected by tornado
INCUMBENT WINS Round Rock City Council Place 2 incumbent Rene Flores defeated Caitlin Leggett during the May 7 general election.
In partnership with the city of Round Rock, nonpro t organization Lone Star Santas held a Caravan of Toys distribution that served 28 families and a total of 60 children a ected by the March 21 tornado that caused extensive damage throughout Williamson County. Joseph Brehm, Round Rock direc- tor of community development, and Clem Webb, regional co-director of Lone Star Santas, organized the May 7 event at the Bob Bennett Utilities and Transportation Building in Round Rock. As part of the e ort, organizers reached out directly to the 800 households a ected and placed signs in the area advertising it. Santa and Mrs. Claus welcomed families, and each child was able to select some toys. Led by Webb, statewide group Lone Star Santas travels across Texas visiting cities a ected by natural disasters.

Round Rock residents re-elected Rene Flores for City Council Place 2, o cial election night polling data shows. Flores received 2,608 votes out of 4,282, representing 60.91% of the vote. Opponent Caitlin Leggett had 1,674 votes. “I was very happy with the outcome and the opportunity to continue to serve the
residents of Round Rock,” Flores said. “I felt like my experience in serving on nonpro t boards and my time on council made me the better candidate. I still feel like I can add value to the conversations and decisions being made on the dais.” Flores was elected to Place 2 in May 2016 and re-elected in May 2019, according to the
city, and was selected as mayor pro tem in December 2020. He is a 24-year Round Rock resident and is active in local nonpro ts such as Round Rock ISD Partners In Education, Workforce Solutions Rural Capital and YMCA Central Texas as well as serving as chair of the nance council for St. William Catholic Church.

Webb said the Lone Star Santas mission is personally meaningful for him in multiple ways. “There’s a certain sense of help- lessness in many situations where you see something happening, and you can’t really do anything about it,” Webb said.
