The Buda City Council approved an interlocal agreement with Hays County related to a proposed 1626 Connector Roadway project, from Marathon Road to FM 1626, which is located outside of the city’s extraterritorial jurisdiction in Hays County. The agreement stipulates that the roadway is designed, constructed and maintained by the city. A development agreement was approved in June 2024 by the city of Buda for Persimmon—a planned district— that obligates developers to create the 1626 connector roadway, which must be completed before the 326 planned homes are occupied in the development. This connector would provide an alternative route option for commuters and a solution for high trac volumes and safety concerns identied in a recent study of the FM 1626 and RM 967 intersection. Due to high trac volumes, safety concerns and projected population growth, the city of Buda contracted engineering services company Tetra Tech to conduct the study and present possible solutions, according to previous reporting by Community Impact. By 2050, the projected volume of trac is expected to be 138,261 cars per day, which the intersection cannot accommodate as is, according to ocials. Trac counts showed an average daily volume of 29,189-32,517 vehicles on FM 1626 and 15,075- 19,243 vehicles on RM 967.
