Thrive With Autism purchases property for charter school

Concordia Lutheran High School names interim leader

Concordia Lutheran High School named Charles T. “Chuck” Evans as its interim head of school for the 2023-24 school year following the retirement of former Head of School Joel Bode, the school announced in July.

Thrive With Autism, a nonprot focused on helping children with autism, closed on a property May 24 at 32100 Dobbin-Hufsmith Road, Magnolia, founder and President Elizabeth Goldsmith said. The new property serves as the location for the organization’s public charter school, the Thrive Center for Success, beginning with the 2023-24 school year that began Aug. 28. Zooming out: The Thrive Center for Success is a public charter school that focuses on children with autism and combines applied behavioral analysis and academics, according to its website. The school nished its rst year in operation teaching students in grades K-5 in a space leased from a church, Goldsmith said. The details: The school begins the 2023-24 school year with grades K-6, adding a grade level each year, up to age 21, Goldsmith said.

INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL NO. 3 Initial site work is underway for the district’s third intermediate school, spanning grades ve-six. The school’s layout will be similar to Magnolia Intermediate School with a larger gym, more faculty oces and restrooms, and the addition of a fth grade music room, according to district information. AUDUBON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL The foundation has been poured for the new elementary school, which will be the district’s rst two-story elementary school. The school board approved increasing the guaranteed maximum price for Audubon Elementary during a July 17 meeting by $620,000 as a result of design changes necessitated by the Audubon community. The prior price was $1 million under budget, district ocials said. Guaranteed maximum price: $34.16 million Timeline: opening August 2024

JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL NO. 3 Magnolia ISD’s board of trustees approved the guaranteed maximum price for its third junior high school to be $70.86 million during a July 17 meeting. District ocials said this is $2 million less than projected for the cost of the school. The school will be built across from the Magnolia Parkway Elementary campus and house seventh and eighth grades, and land is in the process of being cleared. Guaranteed maximum price: $70.86 million Timeline: opening August 2025

How we got here: According to the school’s announcement, Bode announced his retirement in November after 22 years as Concordia’s head of school. Evans has worked more than 25 years in edu- cational leadership. His time at Concordia will be his 10th interim head of school assignment among Texas, Illinois, South Carolina and Virginia. Next steps: Evans will lead Concordia Lutheran High School as the interim head of school for the 2023-24 school year while the board of directors conducts a national search for the permanent head of school for the 2024-25 school year, Director of Advancement Jonathan Schleicher said.

• Open enrollment for the 2024-25 school year will begin in December, Goldsmith said. • The Thrive Center for Success serves students within the boundaries of Conroe, Klein, Magnolia, Montgomery, Spring, Tomball and Waller ISDs. What else?: Goldsmith said the school will likely remain on the ground oor of the building for its rst two years and then start growing upstairs.
