The campus conversion and expansion is expected to last two years, according to VLK Architects. In May 2023, voters approved the use of $522 million to expand and improve district facilities as HISD is growing. Proposition A of the bond package was for $471.5 million to fund several major campus proj- ects, including construction of two new elementary schools and expansion of the Ninth Grade Center into a full high school.
In addition to Neatherlin’s update on the school’s construction timeline, administrators and repre- sentatives of VLK Architects provided an update on designs for the new high school at a March 13 school board meeting. The update came with new renderings showing what the exterior and interior of the campus could look like, including plans for an auditorium, competition gym and eld house. Neatherlin said the conversion would create addi- tional space on the campus for career and technical education programming. “It’ll have all the things that Hutto High School
