filtration system for efficiency and stored water for use during this time. I would rather deal with this planned repair now than a surprise BCRUA breakdown in, say, July. Leander's growth will increase water demand. Our mayor and council have wisely tapped the brakes on growth but a lot of things approved before them can't be stopped. State law also requires certain development approvals. All the more reason to fix the water system now. Why would I use paid ad space for THIS? Because my family, friends, neighbors, and brands will all benefit from this plan and I want to help our community understand it. I also want to publicly thank our mayor and council for unanimously approving it. We're in this together. But since this IS an ad, I guess I should promote our business a little more. Here goes... Leanderthal Vodka is 60% water. We use reverse osmosis filtration to purify and soften it but that process starts with city water. It's our lifeblood. For years, Leander has struggled with an imperfect water delivery system. An upgrade is coming that will require all of us to sacrifice a little at a great time of year to do it. Let's start with Leander's water source. It comes from Lake Travis and two plants service us: The older Sandy Creek Plant and the Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority. (BCRUA) What is the problem? The BCRUA pipeline breaks down a lot and will require multiple ongoing repairs if we continue using it as-is. So what is the plan? The long term plan is to upgrade to something called the "deep water intake," a deep pipe with greater capacity. In the meantime, we need to replace 1400 feet of the BCRUA pipeline so it can work reliably until the deep water intake is done in 2027. While the BCRUA line is replaced, we must rely just on Sandy Creek. If we use less than 9 million gallons a day as a city, we should be fine until the BCRUA line is done. If we don't, a water pressure drop could result in a boil order. What can you and I do to help? Conserve. From February 12 through March, turn off your sprinklers. Shower faster. Don't plant until April. Don't wash your car at home. (Most car washes use recycled water.) Check the city's website and social media for other water saving tips and read the alerts they send you. At Leanderthal, we upgraded our
This is obviously NOT political advertising. It's sort of a PSA. But since I mentioned the city and elected offices, just to be sure we don't run afoul of any stupidly applied laws, I'll include this entirely unnecessary disclaimer: "Political advertising.
