TOP STORY TO WATCH IN 2022

NEW COMMISSIONER PRECINCTS

In the 2020 census, Hays County proved to be the fastest- growing county in the nation for counties with more than 100,000 residents. That change does not happen evenly among county precincts and requires a change in the boundaries for the Commissioners Court to ensure voting power is evenly distributed.

We have a new test where we are comparing the performance of these two technologies side by side.” -EH Does HESOLAR install batteries? “Yes, HESOLAR is a certified installer of the Tesla Powerwall. With the Tesla Powerwall, a solar pv system can continue to operate in the event of a power outage. The Powerwalls can be added now or retrofitted to a system in the future without replacing existing equipment. This year we added Tesla Powerwalls to the test array and will continue to make suggestions based on our findings.” -DH What makes HESOLAR different from their competitors? “We have many answers to that question. The most common feedback we get is that our customers value working directly with Derrick and I from start to finish. Customers also have our direct contact after installation. On the sales side, we don’t knock on doors and we don’t push the sell, we just educate. Behind the scenes is where we really differentiate ourselves. Derrick and I have been Master Electricians for over 10 years, and we’re NABCEP Certi- fied Solar Installation Professionals. We lead our team through the design, installation, and warranty of your system. We don’t subcontract our labor and we use the highest quality materials available. Below is a table we use to display the differences between HESOLAR and our competitors.” -EH

Every design. Every installation. By The Hoffman Brothers.

Q & A with the Hoffman Brothers

What exactly does HESOLAR Do? “The service we provide is a specialized form of electrical contracting. Derrick and I are second generation Master Electricians that grew up in the electrical industry. We’ve spent the last 10 years building on our skill-sets as Master Electricians specializing in solar power, energy storage, and electric vehicle charging. ” -Eric Hoffman Why are customers adding solar? “Saving money, back-up power capabilities, lowering their carbon footprint, energy independence... Ultimately, solar power allows customers to invest in their own energy needs. The cost of solar installation will be offset by savings gained on their electric bills. Additionally, the current Federal Tax Credit of 26% has motivated a lot of our customers to act now before the credit goes away.” - Derrick Hoffman How does the Tax Credit work? “The credit is factored on the entire system cost. It is currently at 26% and will ramp down to 22% next year. Homeowners should consult with a Tax Professional regarding applicability.” -DH Are all solar panels the same? “Not at all. Solar panels come in different colors, sizes, and quality. That’s why we created the HESOLAR Test Array. We are actively monitoring the top solar panels in the solar industry and specify our material based on the results. We are also testing leading inverter technologies.” -DH

Any advice for homeowners ready to go solar? “Be careful with sales companies knocking on doors and advertising bogus claims on social media like Facebook. Their goal is to get in your house and convince you to make a rush decision. Our advice is to politely close the door. Don’t rush this purchase, take your time and do your research. Craftsmen don’t find you, you find us.” -EH

The HESOLAR Test Array video is available at hesolarllc.com

What are inverters? “The inverter converts the solar panel’s DC voltage to an AC voltage. Solar consumers will have a choice between Microinverters and DC-Optimized String Inverters. Microinverters convert the DC to AC under the solar panel. A DC-Optimized string inverter manipulates the DC voltage under the solar panel and then sends it to an inverter near the electrical service.

They went on to convert it into a Nitro Swimming instructional facility. Both coming from competitive swimming backgrounds, the couple said they could not imagine their Kyle facility not having both instructional and competitive swimming. Nitro Swimming will open a new location of its indoor, climate-controlled swim centers in late 2022. The groundbreaking for the 40,000-square-foot building is slated for January, east of FM 1626 and north of Kohlers Crossing in Kyle. Tracy and Mike Koleber opened the rst center in Cedar Park in 2007 before opening a second location four years later in Bee Cave. They felt as though the Austin area had a shortage of pools and that they could bridge that gap. “When we built Nitro Cedar Park, I thought that was it. I didn’t really have aspirations of building more locations,” Tracy said.

Projects planned and underway to accommodate Hays County growth

FORECASTING THE FUTURE

2001

As the growth continues to boom in Hays County, these are some projects that are expected to increase safety and mobility with more cars on the road. I-35 and Hwy. 123 expansion will widen the frontage road, rebuild lanes and reconstruct Hwy. 123 intersection

pedestrian improvements, raise the northbound frontage road over the San Marcos River, widen the southbound frontage road over the San Marcos River and more. Another project in San Marcos that is slated to be completed in 2022 is a $14 million project along I-35 from Aquarena Springs Drive to River Ridge Parkway. The project is set to build a new north- bound exit ramp to River Ridge, relocate the existing northbound entrance ramp further south and reconstruct the northbound frontage road between Loop 82 and River Ridge. Moving north along I-35, another project set to be com- pleted in 2022 is another ramp-re- versal project in Kyle from RM 150 to Kyle Crossing. Lanes between entrance and exit ramps along the northbound frontage road in this stretch along I-35 will be extended, and portions of the frontage road will also be reconstructed. There will be changes to the ramp congu- rations, and a new bridge will be built over Plum Creek. With these two projects slated to be completed in 2022, Semora said they will be a big win and will mean much more safety for the area. Funding for all projects is provided by TxDOT and the Cap- ital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization.

In 2021, the Texas Department of Transportation broke ground and completed several projects throughout Hays County and along the I-35 corridor. The completion of the Posey Road project in San Marcos and the start of the Robert S. Light Boulevard extension project in Buda will improve mobility and safety, TxDOT public information ocer Bradley Wheelis said. Addi- tionally, projects have also been delayed due to inclement weather and material delivery delays as the country faces supply chain shortage issues. William Semora Jr., the South Travis/Hays County area engineer, said TxDOT recently broke ground on one of the biggest projects in Hays County, the I-35 and Hwy. 123 expansion project in San Marcos. Though the $107 million project will not be completed in 2022, ocials are excited to have the project underway. The project, part of the Mobil- ity35 Program that is meant to improve safety and mobility on I-35, will adjust and widen the frontage road, rebuild lane structures and bridges over the course of the next three years in seven phases. Portions of the north and southbound frontage roads will be constructed to add bicycle and
