HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR FLOWERS

Clear any leaves on the stems, cut the bottom of the stem at an angle, and put the fresh owers in a vase with fresh water and ower food. Change the water every few days. While doing so, clear any foliage that has fallen o of the owers and into the water. When the water is changed, always recut the stems of the owers at an angle to allow the owers to breathe and take in the water.

At the shop, customers can select premade bouquets that come in small, medium or large assortments. A build-your-own-bouquet bar is also oered where customers select their owers with the option to buy a vase or hand-tie them. Other items are also sold in the store, such as shirts, candles, jams and other knick-knacks. “We always try to keep owers in stock that are unique—something that you’re not going to nd in a grocery store,” Hines said. Hines said she wanted to further the at-home environment the property provided, which prompted her to look into food truck or coee vendors. Three months after opening Meadow to Market, she began a partnership with Wilderlove Coee, which is stationed on the front lawn selling coee. Hines said she hopes to expand the shop in the future and is considering taking on more events. “I knew I wanted some sort of food or drink vendor … a pastry truck, possibly sweet and savory crepes, but still looking for someone to ll that spot,” Hines said.

Meadow to Market on Sept. 11. Hines said she is not a trained orist but discovers new owers every day. “Since I was a little kid, that was my favorite thing to do—make bouquets,” Hines said. “We lived in a very rural part of Oklahoma, where all I had around me was pastures, … so it was pretty easy to nd owers to make bouquets.” Through her passion, she opened the Montgom- ery shop and learns as she goes, she said. “I thought, ‘I don’t have time to [open the shop],’ … but my husband said, ‘Are you going to do it or talk about it for the next 20 years?’” Hines said. The business oers a rotating array of owers. Daily owers may include peonies, ranunculus and poppies as well as an assortment of ller ow- ers. About 25% of the shop’s owers are locally grown, depending on the time of year. Hines said she hopes in the future to have more than 75% grown locally.
