FROM DARCY: On May 18, Austin ISD voted to provide raises for teachers and sta by taking up to $53 million from their fund balance—essentially their savings account. As a former education reporter, I've seen districts take this action before. But given the nancial di culties AISD is facing from shifting populations and state recapture, trustees say the investment is a necessary risk.
