TOMBALL ISD The board of trustees approved a new District of Innovation plan Dec. 14 that will take effect in August for five years. TISD was first approved as a District of Innovation in 2016. Districts of Innovation are exempt from certain sections of the Texas Education Code, according to the Texas Education Agency website. Changes to the plan include allowing classes to begin earlier and keeping a provision allowing TISD to hire qualified teachers who may not have Texas teaching credentials. Tomball ISD renewed its District of Innovation plan during its Dec. 14 board meeting, allowing the district to be exempt from certain sections of the Texas Education Code. RENEWING THE PLAN CHANGES: Classes can begin as early as second Monday in August. A provision to adjust daily instructional time is removed. NEW PROVISIONS: All district administrators are trained to give disciplinary action. Parental requests for retention for K-3 students is limited.

to make informed decisions about future buildings and attendance patterns,” Superintendent Todd Stephens said at the meeting. Templeton Demographics Vice President Bob Templeton said at the meeting the growth can be attributed to a rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic and a surge in residential development within the district. He said the district had his- torically seen about 400 new home starts a year; however, there were 1,333 annual starts as of the second quarter of 2021. The district also has 17,800 future lots planned with 31 actively building subdivisions in the district and 14 future subdivisions planned, according to the district’s report. Because of that, Templeton said he anticipates seeing about 600 new students a year for the foreseeable future. Based on the report, at this rate the district would have more than 20,000 students by the 2030-31 academic year. “We’re looking at a 20-year horizon for future growth,” Templeton said. “It’s not a matter of if these numbers are happening but when.”

MAGNOLIA ISD Compared to the 2020-21 school year, Magnolia ISD grew by 556 students in fall 2021, according to a demographic report presented to the board of trustees at its Dec. 13 meeting. The district has a total of 13,678 students, representing 4.2% growth from the 2020-21 academic year, according to the report. In the 2020-21 academic year, the district saw a decrease in enrollment of 1.3%, the report said. Previously, the district grew by 2.1% in 2018-19 and 0.2% in 2019-20. “It’s important for us to have that information
