FISD officials request low attendance waiver Frisco ISD officials are requesting a low atten- dance waiver after several schools lost electricity during an early March storm. The district’s board of trustees approved the request to mitigate state funding losses March 10. What happened Rogers Elementary School, Staley Middle School and Memorial High School as well as the Student Opportunity Center were closed March 4 due to a power outage. Classes resumed at those schools March 5, an FISD spokesperson said. Explained School districts can request to excuse any instructional days from ADA funding calculations due to low attendance numbers from inclement weather or other issues, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Collin College celebrates 40 years Collin College will surpass 40 years since its inception in April. The background More than 25,000 Collin County residents signed a petition to support the opening of a public community college in the area in 1984, and in 1985, the Collin County Com- munity College District was established. The college’s first graduating class included 13 students, and at the time, the school offered a total of 25 degrees, certifi- cates and pathways. The school has grown to offer over 200 degrees and certificates including four bachelor’s degree programs, and more than 60,000 students have gradu- ated from Collin College, its website states.
