Yelverton announces plans to leave post Southlake City Manager Shana Yelverton announced plans to step away from her position at the end of January. Yelverton is leaving to pursue new oppor- tunities, according to a news release issued Oct. 11. She has been with the city for more than three decades. Yelverton began her career in Southlake as the assistant city manager in 1993. She was promoted to city manager in 2005.

Grant to help combat violence in county A local nonprot, with oces in Fort Worth and Grapevine, received a grant for more than $309,000. One Safe Place will get money to combat gang violence and violent crime in Tarrant County, according to a news release from U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, RTexas. The funding will come from the U.S. Department of Justice and is part of Cornyn’s Project Safe Neighborhoods Grant Program Authoriza- tion Act. The context One Safe, originally the Safe City Commission when founded in 2005, is a comprehensive crime prevention agency devoted to preventing crime and violence in Tarrant County’s neighborhoods, schools and homes, according to the website.

Grapevine council passes 1-year zoning extension With no construction underway on a proposed hotel and water park in Grapevine, council approved a request to extend a zoning decision approved last year. Council members approved the extension of Stand Rock Resort and Water Park’s zoning overlay that will allow for the construction of a 661-room hotel, water park and on-site gaming machines during the Oct. 17 joint meeting with the Grapevine Planning and Zoning Commission. The proposed location is at 3509 N. Grapevine Mills Blvd., along SH 121, near Kubota Drive. What’s happening? A one-year extension of the zoning overlay will allow time for construction to begin at the proposed Stand Rock Resort and Water Park. By granting the extension, the approved zoning permits from 2022 will not expire.
