Texas State University’s Health Center Pharmacy closed May 25. (Amira Van Leeuwen/Community Impact) Texas State Student Health Center Pharmacy closes BY AMIRA VAN LEEUWEN The Texas State University Student Health Center Pharmacy permanently closed May 25. Students were notied May 15. Pharmacy records and prescriptions were transferred to Walgreens. “It was important for us to make sure that our students would be able to access their prescriptions,” said Dr. Emilio Carranco, director of the Student Health Center. “Our students can go to any Wal- greens and access their prescriptions.” Carranco said a combination of factors led to the closure, including increased competition with other pharmacies, such as Walgreens, CVS and HEB. Other factors were declines in insurance reimburse- ment and low prescription volume.

St. David’s HealthCare announced May 18 that it will acquire a MedPost Urgent Care location in San Marcos as well as nine FastMed Urgent Care centers in the Austin area, including one located in Kyle. The urgent care centers will be rebranded as St. David’s CareNow Urgent Care clinics at an unspeci- ed time later this year once the acquisition process is complete, according to a St. David’s statement. The acquisition means St. David’s CareNow Urgent Care clinics will grow from the 15 in the Central Texas area to 25 across the region. “Upon completion, this acquisition will allow us to expand our geographic footprint, providing patients with convenient, quality care closer to home,” St. David’s President and CEO David Hustutler said. “These urgent care clinics will also provide additional capacity to safely care for patients as Central Texas continues to grow, lling the gap between primary care physicians and hospital emergency rooms.” St. David’s will launch a new hospital in Kyle in the coming years, according to the company.
