Breathe Pilates Studio aims to build community

After 22 years of dedicating herself to ballet, Laura Meitzen began using Pilates reformer machines instead of barres, which are used for support in dance. What began as a warm-up routine during her dance career became a full-time passion, leading her to become a Pilates instructor at Breathe Pilates Studio in 2010. In 2022 she became a co-owner at the studio where she began teaching. “When I stopped dancing, I was very lost and I discovered the [Pilates Body Arts and Science International] certi‚cation,” Meitzen said. “It really, really spoke to me as far as the attention to detail and precision, just like ballet.” Pilates is a form of exercise focused on strength, ‡exibility and body awareness. Meet the owners Meitzen said Kelly Milton, the founder of Breathe Pilates Studio, built the foundation for the Pilates studio in 2008. Katie Page and Meitzen took over as owners in 2022 after Milton left the studio. Meitzen said though it was not planned, the two made it their mission to maintain the community Breathe Pilates Studio established in The Woodlands. What they oer Focused on education and BASI, a method of Pilates centered around the body, arts, science and innovation, Breathe Pilates Studio incorporates

a contemporary approach to Pilates. The studio hosts education workshops, private Pilates classes and group classes with up to six people. “The BASI Pilates method utilizes these ten principles: awareness, breath, balance, control, concentration, center, eŽciency, precision, ‡ow and harmony,” Page said. “These principles guide every movement in BASI as well as at Breathe ensuring a balanced, e‘ective, and mindful approach to exercise. Clients should experience each of the principles of Pilates on every visit to our studio.” The studio operates with eight Pilates instruc- tors with over 15 years of experience individually and o‘ers a variety of Pilates classes. The fully equipped studio o‘ers mat Pilates, reformer, chair and mixed equipment Pilates.
