That will bring the hospital’s total to 212 patient beds, according to a Children’s Health release. The hospital will also add a new larger emergency room with 48 exam rooms and increased services. The addition of 26 new pediatric intensive care unit beds, with six beds for newborn intensive care, will also be

Styled like a 1920s service station with vintage Ford vehicles, gas pumps and fixtures, Ford’s Garage offers gourmet burgers and American comfort food entrees, such as meatloaf, chili, and macaroni and cheese, according to the eatery’s website. It also offers a variety American craft beers, wine and cocktails. The restau- rant is in the building formerly occupied by Razzoo’s Cajun Cafe, which closed in December 2019 after 20 years of service at that location. The restaurant will feature menu items, such as the Chilean sea bass, crab fried rice, and truffled macaroni and cheese. Featured cocktails will include the Smoked Old Fashioned and the Hope Diamond. Fizz o ers co ee service beginning at 7 a.m. before transitioning into a lounge with drinks and music in the evenings, according to a news release from the business. The reopening of the library, which is located at 7501 Independence Parkway, was marked with a celebration attended by library staff and city officials, including Mayor John Muns. The project doubled the size of the children’s area and added a new dedicated Children’s Program Room at the library, accord- ing to a city release. New study rooms, meeting rooms, collaborative spaces and outdoor landscaping improvements were also added as part of the renovations. The project was part of a bond measure approved by city voters in 2017. The same bond measure is also funding a renovation project at Harrington Library that began last year. 12 Walmart is spending millions of dol- lars this year to update and remodel nearly 50 stores throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth region, the retailer announced May 5. In north Plano, the Walmart Neighbor- hood Market store at 12A 3312 Preston Road and the Walmart Supercenter store at 12B 6000 Coit Road will undergo remodeling. City Council approved the funding for the project at its May 23 meeting. Construction will involve the repair of 450,000 square feet of street pavement and 45,000 square feet of sidewalk. The project will take place along the entirety of Plano Parkway from US 75 to the eastern city limits. PLANO Registration is now open for residents to apply for the Neighborhood and Vitality Beautification Grant offered by the city. The program offers up to $10,000 in grant funds to registered neighborhood groups within the city. Preapplications are due July 1, and all applications are due Aug. 15.
PISD sets tax rate public hearing PLANO ISD The board of trustees is looking to decrease the district’s tax rate for the fourth straight year. At its May 17 meeting, the board BY WILLIAM C. WADSACK DISTRICT TAX RATE The Plano ISD tax rate is divided into two parts—maintenance and operations, or M&O, which funds daily operations for the district, and interest and sinking, or I&S, which is used to make debt payments on capital projects.
COLLIN COUNTY Election results in the Republican primary runoff election for the Texas House District 70 seat show Jamee Jolly defeated Eric J. Bowlin. In the Democratic primary runoff for the same seat, Mihaela Elizabeth Plesa defeated Cassandra Garcia Hernandez. Jolly got more than 52% of votes in the Republican primary, while Bowlin had less than 48%. “I’m so proud of our campaign team and our volunteers, [who] worked really hard to reach every single voter,” Jolly said. In the Democratic primary, Plesa received more than 55% of the vote, while Hernandez received less than 45%. Plesa did not respond to a request for comment. PISD Chief Financial Officer Johnny Hill said the proposed rate was calculated using a certified estimate of district property values, but the district is slated to receive certified values before the tax rate is set. “So that could go up a little bit, [or] it could go down a little bit,” Hill said The preliminary proposed property tax rate of $1.27935 per $100 valua- tion is about a 3.13% decrease from the fiscal year 2021-22 rate of $1.32075 per $100 valuation. “Over the last four years, this would make a total decrease of about $0.16 in the overall tax rate,” Hill said.
