Humble City Council greenlights nearly $70K in traffic signal improvements

Impacted intersections

A project to upgrade traffic lights at three intersections is moving forward after Humble City Council approved $69,800 for engineering services during the May 22 council meeting. What’s happening? According to May 22 council meeting doc- uments, the project will target “outdated and deteriorating equipment” at the following Humble intersections: • South Houston Avenue and Isaacks Road • North Houston Avenue and Townsen Boulevard • West Townsen Boulevard and Walmart Entrance Drive Improvements will include added radar detec- tion systems and battery backup units, according to meeting documents.

A timeline for this project has not yet been announced. The cost

The construction budget for the renovations is $225,000, or $75,000 per intersection, according to meeting documents. Engineering and construc- tion phase services costs are not included in the construction budget totals. Houston-based firm ARKK Engineers was selected to provide services for the project throughout the design, bid and construction phases, according to meeting documents. A majority of the city’s expense—$57,300—will cover design and bidding phase services. The $69,800 engineering expenditure was budgeted in the city’s fiscal year 2024-25 budget, City Manager Jason Stuebe said May 22.
