City council donates to school lunch program Pflugerville City Council awarded a $100,000 contribution to Pfood Pfairness, a nonprofit ded- icated to ensuring all students receive the same lunches regardless of financial status. The gist Brothers John and Maxx Amador, Hendrickson High School students, formed the Pfood Pfairness nonprofit this year after Pflugerville ISD instituted new student lunch debt policies. PfISD returned to pre-COVID-19 policies as the district is no longer receiving federal funding for student lunches, according to a statement from PfISD. The district is also responsible for outstand- ing lunch balances. This results in reduced funding for school programs and resources, according to PfISD, as the increasing debt being incurred by the district has amounted to over $180,000.
County approves EMS funding increase A growing number of nonemergency calls to Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services has prompted a $1.7 million funding boost from Travis County. The details About 10% of the calls ATCEMS receives are for life-threatening situations, EMS Chief Robert Luckritz said. Many of the remaining calls are a result of more residents using 911 in place of other health services. Commissioners approved increasing the county’s portion of the interlocal agreement with the city by 11% to $17.66 million. The additional $1.7 million will help fund ambulance coverage; increases for programs that connect patients with more appropriate health care resources; and supplies and equipment.
From left, Pfood Pfairness nonprot members include Maxx, Corey Ann and John Amador.

What’s happening? City Council approved a preliminary agreement with developers Griffin Swinerton LLC on Nov. 28, finalizing negotiations with the company for the first phase of building plans for the city-owned property located northeast of the Pecan Street and FM 685 intersection. “The most important thing that you can do is to start,” Griffin Swinerton representative Korin Crawford said. “[The city] needs to create a destination. ...We put together a Phase 1 that was doable and achievable that creates the momentum for the subsequent phases down the road.” Total cost for Phase 1 of the project is estimated
Hutto cemetery seeks historical status The Hutto City Council approved a motion Nov. 2 to submit an application to the Texas Historical Commission for the recognition of the Shiloh Black Cemetery as an untold historical marker. The overview The cemetery, once used as a dumping site, has been restored to its original, grassy resting grounds by the efforts of the Black Families of Hutto. The group has performed several cleanups over recent years. Receiving designation and signage from the Texas Historical Commission would help preserve the site from future vandalism, according to the group. The cemetery was opened in the 1800s during the times of segregation and holds the remains of an estimated 130 individuals.

Majority of Travis County voters back the bond Travis County bonds passed with broad support in the Nov. 7 election. Overview Proposition A, which passed with 75.78% support, includes $233.06 million to improve and construct a slew of roads with shared-use paths throughout the county. The bond dollars are meant to fund the county’s Safe2 road design on several two-lane county roads without shoulders, such as Bee Creek Road in the Lake Travis area. Proposition B, which passed with 77.11% of the votes, totals $276.44 million and will fund new trails along Onion Creek, new trails around Gille- land Creek in Pugerville, and new sports elds at Bee Creek Sports Complex and Southeast Metro Park. Meanwhile, $200 million will go to acquiring green space and securing conservation easements.

Students who participate in the program are able to earn their EMT license and other credentials before graduating high school, which PfISD CTE Director Traci Hendrix says provides a leg up on others trying to enter the eld.

The bakery oers customized cakes, cookies and cupcakes.
The menu also includes breakfast sandwiches, paninis and salads, and several coee drinks. The present Anders said one of the biggest challenges she faced in recent years is food price ination. “It’s been hard to keep up with ... Some things haven’t changed much, like coee, but for others, it felt like I had to keep changing prices every few days,” Anders said. Quote of note “It’s peaceful, there’s no loud music, it’s calm, service is quick. This is what Hutto is all about,” said Claire Appleton, who’s been a Baked’nsconed customer for three years.
Owner Tiany Anders opened Hutto-based treat shop Baked’nsconed with her family in 2013. Before that, the Texas native was a pastry chef at Bistro M in McAllen, where she rst began experimenting with scone recipes. “When we rst got to Hutto, there was nothing really here in terms of restaurants. But because of that, I was able to build relationships with the city, catering with the police and re department and with the schools,” Anders said. The menu Baked’nsconed oers cookies, croissants and uniquely avored scones on a daily basis, from lemon blueberry to white chocolate peppermint in the winter.
