Early childhood center to open as rst part of upcoming YMCA

A new YMCA facility is set to open in the Four Points area in 2025 at 8300 N. RM 620, Austin. The rst phase of the three-part plan for the facility’s construction will be the opening of an early child- hood education center. A $3 million gift from the Schmetterling Foun- dation will support the opening of YMCA’s rst Tomorrow Academy, an academy for children ages 6 weeks to prekindergarten set to open in early 2025. The context Greater Austin YMCA CEO Kathy Kuras said the new center has been 10 years in the making, and that thanks to the Schmetterling Foundation gift, the academy will now be the rst phase of the building. Schmetterling Foundation co-founder Colleen Clark said the Four Points neighborhood will benet greatly from the new center addition. “This is an area that’s growing rapidly, and there’s a ton of families without huge resources,” Clark said.

“What better area to put something like this?” When researching the community’s needs, Kuras said they found child care and early education was one of the top four priorities in Four Points. The YMCA currently oers early education to chil- dren ages 6 weeks to 4 years old in six preschools throughout the Austin area through its Extend-A- Care YMCA Early Education programs. The new facility will allow them to teach about 100 additional students per day, Kuras said. The plan After the Tomorrow Academy is established, Phase 2 of the Four Points YMCA will begin to create outdoor spaces such as a swimming pool, splash pad, playground, outdoor tness areas and family gathering spaces. Phase 3 of construction will complete the YMCA facility by nishing the indoor tness center, according to the project’s website. Both phases are expected to take 18-24 months, depending on community support.

The Four Points YMCA is expected to have an early childhood education center, outdoor community tness and gathering spaces, and indoor tness areas.
