Lakeway to rebuild pedestrian trail bridges Following the collapse of the Hamilton Greenbelt Bridge, which degraded due to envi- ronmental factors after 20 years of use, the city of Lakeway has agreed to invest in reconstruction in order to support pedestrian and park mainte- nance use. The Hamilton Greenbelt Bridge collapse was identified in the fall, and further city inspections showed the nearby Smith Greenbelt Bridge was also aging, City Manager Joseph Molis said. Reconstruction of both of these bridges will cost the city approximately $194,950. This amount was included in this fiscal year’s budget for Lakeway, according to city documents. ABIA begins parking garage project Making room for the future one level at a time, airport and city officials gathered just north of the economy parking lot to break ground on a new parking garage at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on Feb. 28. The details The new parking garage will add an esti- mated 7,000 spaces, as well as electric vehicle charging stations and smart parking and toll gate technologies. Previously approved by Austin City Coun- cil, the $15 million for design and $250 million for construction of the garage is fully funded by the airport. The project is paid for through airport reserves, revenue, and future bonds— without using local tax dollars, according to airport officials.

Municipal building work continues Construction of a new West Lake Hills municipal building, located at 4010 Bee Caves Road, is currently underway. The overview Construction on the complex began in early 2024 and will finish in July. Significant progress has been made, with the main building structure now in place and roof- mounted heating and cooling units installed, according to West Lake Hills’ website. In March, the last windows will be installed. The new municipal complex, which was approved for $13.2 million, will house West Lake Hills’ City Council chambers, police department and city administrative offices. An additional $9.5 million was authorized by City Council in consideration of land acquisition and cost escalations.

Drees Custom Homes to build neighborhood near Lakeway City Park A new single-family housing development is headed to Lakeway with Lakeside Estates. Located off Rupen Drive, the site near Lakeway City Park will include 10 homes on five acres of mostly undeveloped land. The project is expected to break ground mid-March, and homes are estimated to cost between $975,000 and $1.5 million, developer Bill Hayes said. Drees Custom Homes is the homebuilder for the project. The company previously completed work for neighborhoods within the nearby Rough Hol- low, such as Las Brisas and Vista Ridge, according to its website. What else? to access the entirety of the city’s trail system. Combining both of these bridges into one proj- ect will allow the city to maximize construction costs, according to city documents. Bids for the project went out in December, with Huitt-Zollars serving as the engineering firm for the project. City Council formally approved selecting Alinea Construction Corporation as the construction company for the bridges at a Feb. 18 meeting. “We’re hoping that the bridges would be completed this spring and completely open for business by the summer,” Molis said.
