Plano ISD joins lawsuit against TEA Plano ISD is the latest of more than 60 Texas school districts to join a lawsuit against the Texas Education Agency over its failure to adequately notify school districts on the changes made to the way account- ability ratings are calculated. The big picture The scores will be based on an adjusted criteria that district officials believe would show “the misleading appearance of declining school performance,” according to a resolution passed by the PISD board of trustees. The resolution goes on to state that lower A-F accountability ratings would impact enrollment and property values within the district.

Plano ISD to consider closing schools With enrollment numbers continuing to decline, Plano ISD officials could look to close campuses. What’s happening? The district’s board of trustees approved the formation of a long-range facility planning advisory committee, which will make recommen- dations on “building and property efficiencies,” according to a resolution passed during the board’s Sept. 19 meeting. The committee will be looking into the following options:

Johnny Hill, PISD deputy superintendent for business and employee services, said closing campuses would not come with reducing staff. “Nobody has been let go, and nobody will be let go through this process,” Hill said. He added there is no list of schools being consid- ered for retirement, and all decisions will be made after the committee gathers and reviews data.
