Healing hooves: Open My World nurtures milestones Since Open My World Therapeutic Riding Center was founded in 2008, more than 500 participants have used the nonprot’s services to grow and learn with the help of some equestrian friends. How it works to its general sessions such as “horse-powered reading,” a research-based program which allows participants to interact with horses while learning critical reading skills. Another note
Riders can partake in a range of equine-assisted therapy.
Individuals ages four and up can participate in equine-assisted services such as horseback riding, unmounted activities, obstacles and general horsemanship. The services oered are primarily for individuals living with physical, cognitive and emotional disabilities in addition to those with mental health challenges. The nonprot is looking for a permanent home, and is specically on the hunt for a donation of 7-10 acres in the Leander area. “This dedicated space will enable us to enhance our facilities, broaden our reach and create a long-lasting impact for countless families,” Franklin said. “Since we are a nonprot, there are tax benets to donating land to us.” If interested, contact jocelyn@openmyworld.org.
