Grapevine OKs funding for highway safety projects

Grapevine City Council approved $209,054 at its July 19 meeting as part of an agreement to share costs on ve projects through the Texas Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Improve- ment Program. The program targets projects that eliminate or reduce fatalities and serious injuries. Funding will be split between Grapevine’s capital projects streets fund and TxDOT. Construction on the projects is expected to begin this fall. Here are the projects and their total costs: A Wrong-waydriving detector will be installed on SH 121 at the southbound exit ramp to Grapevine Mills Trail. This will cost $137,192. B Intersectionimprovements at Park Boulevard at Shenandoah Avenue are estimated to cost $53,959. C Improvements at the Hall Johnson Road and Roberts Road intersection will cost about $53,783. D Improvements at the Mustang Drive and Timberline Drive intersection will cost about $207,821. E Araised center median will be in- stalled on William D. Tate Avenue from Mustang Drive to just north of Hwy. 114 at an estimated cost of $365,810.

Cost: $1.31 million plus $250,000 contingency (intersection only) Funding sources: city of Colleyville, federal grant Glade Road and Bluebonnet Drive intersection improvements The intersection of Glade Road and Bluebonnet Drive in Colleyville closed in early July as part of overall improvements to Glade Road. Con- struction Manager Corey Lawson said the intersection work is separate from Phase 2 of the project. The city re- ceived federal grant funding to lower the elevation of Bluebonnet Drive at Glade Road to eliminate the three-way stop signs. Work on Phase 2 extends from Staord Drive to Montclair Drive. Timeline: July-December 2022 (inter- section only)
