No one knows for sure when and at what pace the Fed will soften its monetary policy, but does that actually matter? And of course, we hope that the Fed is able to lower rates because they can and not because they have to. What does all this mean for your portfolio as we look into 2024? Come on by and we can discuss what a change in Fed monetary policy means for you and your money.

Mixed Beverage Tax Revenue The Township received $117,000 of mixed beverage tax revenue in January, which was 25% more than budgeted. Annual tax receipts are projected to total over $1.2 million, and along with sales tax and hotel tax, help keep property tax low for homeowners. Passage of legislation reallocating existing mixed beverage tax revenue from the State to the Township was a key strategic priority for the Board in 2023.

Meet the Doctor | Dr . Loren Moore DC Moving into his 17th year in practice and serving as Lead Doctor of The Joint Spring Creek, Dr. Moore still clearly remembers the moment he chose to spend his life as a chiropractor. When medications and traditional medicine where ineffective in addressing his own chronic wrist pain, Loren turned to chiropractic in desperation. “That first visit changed my life.” The immediate relief he realized from his first treatment and the eventual resolution of the pain impacted him so deeply that he redirected his academic and professional ambitions in order to become a Doctor of Chiropractic. “I truly love what I do, changing people’s lives.”

Montgomery County programs aim to address pilot shortage
Programs in Montgomery County seek to address an industry shortage of pilots with the opening of an aviation training hub and a renewed interest in educational and training opportunities. The approach According to the United States Government Accountability Oce, aviation industry stake- holders have started to take steps to address the workforce shortage. Local authorities in Montgom- ery County also took measures in recent years. In November, a new aviation training hub opened in Conroe. Chennault Air eld became Con- roe’s new airport and ight school with a grand opening Nov. 16. The Lone Star College System also provides a pilot training program in Montgomery County. According to a news release Dec. 6, the Pro- fessional Pilot Program, located at LSCConroe Center, trains students to earn the Federal Aviation Administration pilot certi cates and ratings
required by the aviation industry. • The rst cohort started its ight training in spring 2020. • Since the program started, 32 students have graduated from the program. • There are 140 professional pilot students enrolled in the program for the spring semester. What they’re saying Ashley Christian-Kapalske, a graduate from and instructor at the LSCMontgomery program, said other factors also contribute to the pilot shortages, including low salary, expensive program costs, lack of knowledge on training opportunities, and challenging requirements. “In the past, pilots were not treated well in terms of their salaries, travel rules and accom- modations,” she said. “Today, the industry has come a long way in recognizing and compensating [pilots’] hard work.”

Township awards bid to plant 6,000 trees The Woodlands Township board of directors on Jan. 24 approved a contract to plant 6,000 trees as part of a reforestation e ort approved during August budget meetings. The project During August budget workshops, the township board of directors approved doubling the yearly reforestation e ort to 6,000 trees planted over the course of 2024. Township Chief Operating Ocer Chris Nunes said the trees will be planted as needed along pathways and in communities based on resident requests. The reforestation will occur in two phases to provide the best conditions for the trees to survive, Nunes said. The purpose of spreading out the planting is due to the increased e ect of heat on young trees, he said.
Board alters township meeting policies The Woodlands Township board of directors at the Jan. 24 regular meeting approved changes to the operational policy for meetings regarding public comments and adding items to a township agenda. The specics The board approved a new policy that allows the rst 15 speakers to have three minutes of time to speak, and subsequent speakers will then only have two minutes to speak regardless of subject. The board of directors also agreed to no longer allow speakers to yield their time to another person speaking, and board members will be required to have another member second their request to put an item on the agenda.

What they’re saying “We continually try new things with [the] refor- estation program to learn from challenges that we’ve [had],” Nunes said. “In the last few years, we have modied how we do additional water into the trees. We have modied ... what the soil prepa- ration is that we’re doing; we’re actually adding bags of silica to the ground which actually absorbs water and releases water during drought periods. So it’s a constant evolution of the program.”

Policing report shows fewer car crashes, more auto theft
The Montgomery County Sheri’s O ce pre- sented its annual community policing report to The Woodlands Township during the township’s Jan. 24 board of directors meeting, showing a decrease in many crime categories but an increase in vehicle theft and burglary since 2022. The background The Woodlands Township contracts with multi- ple agencies to provide law enforcement services in the community. The township is primarily serviced by Montgomery County Sheri’s O ce and the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s O ce. The annual policing report provided a snapshot of major trends in patrol and internet crimes for the township. Major trends included a decrease in auto accidents and an increase in internet crimes against children, according to the report. Crime categories which have increased since the report presented in December 2022 are motor vehicle burglary and auto theft, according to information from the township.
The details MCSO Capt. Tim Holield said auto accidents around the township decreased 9% from 2022, with o cers responding to 1,117 total accidents in 2023. As for the number of calls to which MCSO and Harris County o cials responded, October saw an unusual spike in calls for service for that month, Holield said. However, the fraud and information crime cate- gory is an ongoing concern despite a decrease from 406 to 330 reports in 2023, he said. He encouraged residents to be aware of potential phishing scams, which use emails, phone calls or texts to solicit personal information. Quote of note “We try to look at things that we call quality-of- life crimes ... which then goes to our strategic plan of reducing crime and the fear of crime. So if we can reduce quality-of-life crimes, you feel safer,” Holield said.
