equipment has come from direction from both council and the Grapevine Planning and Zoning Commission, Marohnic said, with requests from businesses and developers. The context More charging stations and equipment have been requested recently, Marohnic said, which is also reected in city documents. One of the more recent requests was for 12 charging stations, compared to two in the inaugural 2011 request. What’s next? According to Marohnic, city sta continues to make progress on developing denitions and zoning uses. Once the guidelines are developed, they will be presented during a joint meeting with the Grape- vine Planning and Zoning Commission and council.
The six-month moratorium approved during the Sept. 5 meeting took immediate eect and will allow sta more time to design denitions and zoning uses for chargers and other equipment. The overview Since 2011, about 64 electrical vehicle charging stations have gone through the city’s permitting or site plan amendment process, Director of Planning Services Erica Marohnic said. However, city sta are aware there are many more charging stations in the city, she added. The push to codify denitions and dene zoning uses of electrical vehicle chargers and charging

keeping the 20% homestead exemption. The changes will cost the city around $9.3 million compared to last year’s rates. An average house with a $1 million valuation would see an annual tax bill of $2,600, CFO Sharen Jackson said. In a nutshell Jackson said the budget was a little more than $142 million, an 8.2% increase from FY 2022-23. The city will also be paying more for water and wastewater according to documents.
For the sixth year in a row, Southlake taxpayers will see a lower tax rate than the prior year. Council approved the proposed rate of $0.319 per $100 valuation during the Sept. 5 meeting while also approving the scal year 2023-24 budget. The tax rate will provide 83% of the revenue for the budget and 17% will go toward debt service. The tax rate for FY 2022-23 was $0.36 per $100 of valuation. Tax statements will be generated after Oct. 1 and will reect a property tax reduced by $0.04 compared to FY 2022-23. The proposed budget also includes

Historical Association. The authority led to the creation of the airport, which broke ground in 1968 near the city limits of Euless, Irving and Grapevine. Later, Coppell would also house portions of the airport. At the time, the region had Dallas Love Field Airport, while Meacham Airport was the main airport in Fort Worth. That airport closed when DFW Airport ocially opened in 1974.
DFW Airport is celebrating a milestone anni- versary next year as Jan. 13, 2024, will mark 50 years since its rst commercial ight. The airport was ocially dedicated on Sept. 22, 1973, when a Concorde jet from France landed in the U.S. for the rst time, according to airport spokesperson Cynthia Vega. $4.8B Project total
The rst expansion to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in nearly two decades will start in early 2024. Airport ocials announced plans in May 2019 to construct Terminal F, but when the pandemic hit the next year, CEO Sean Donohue announced the project would be put on hold. In May 2023, the airport and American Airlines ocials signed a 10-year use and lease agreement on a $4.8 billion project that would construct Terminal F, the rst addition of a new terminal since 2005. Expansion of the central terminal area will include a major reimagining of Terminal C, “pier” expansions o Terminal A and Terminal C, and signicant upgrades to roadways and terminal access. Construction of a new Terminal F will feature a 15-gate concourse with modernized baggage handling, expanded concessions and additional passenger gates.
"Our region will become the nation’s third-largest metro region within the next 10 years, and it’s no surprise that we have the second-busiest airport in the world." MATTIE PARKER, FORT WORTH MAYOR
The new terminal is expected to add up to 25 gates beyond DFW Airport’s 2023 total. Airport ocials expect the numbers of travelers ying in and out to increase as well.

Check out new food from 2023’s State Fair of Texas Big Tex Choice Awards Fairgoers have dozens of new dishes to try at this year’s Texas State Fair through the Big Tex Choice Awards. The annual competition pits vendors’ creations against each other before a panel of judges with the chance to win awards for most creative dish and best taste in both savory and sweet catego- ries. The winners were announced in August, and all dishes will be available at the fair, which runs from Sept. 29-Oct. 22. Finalist creations ranged from a loaded fries pizza—which is a hand-tossed pizza sauced with buttermilk ranch dressing, covered with cheese and salted fries—to a sweet encanto, a round waf- e sweetened with caramel dulce de leche and a strawberries, kiwi and shredded coconut cream. “We started the competition to challenge the vendors to really think outside the box,” said Melanie Linnear, State Fair of Texas senior vice president of concessions. 1 Best taste (savory) winner: Deep-fried pho is handcrafted, rolled up and deep-fried. It combines noodles, slices of beef, fresh herbs, bean sprouts and a pho broth that has been slowly simmered for hours. It is served with a side of pho broth for dipping, lime, jalapenos, cilantro, hoisin sauce and sriracha. 2 Best taste (sweet) winner: Bisco delight is a New York-style cheesecake coated with Belgian chocolate and adorned with crushed Bisco cookies. A drizzle of Lotus Bisco spread imparts a caramelized touch. Topping it o is a carefully placed Bisco cookie. 3 Most creative winner: Bourbon banana caramel sopapillas are traditional sopapillas topped with va- nilla-caramel-infused bananas, sweet bourbon syrup, crushed candied pecans, sweetened mascarpone cheese and crumbled Nilla Wafers.

House of Daisies sells clothing, jewelry in Colleyville
The boutique sells a variety of jewelry, clothing and more.
McIntyre orders products in small quantities so customers can be comfortable in purchasing unique pieces. The details The collection at House of Daisies is a reection of McIntyre herself, she said. She said she envisioned the boutique as a place where women can nd something that’s fashion- able and trendy without costing a lot of money. “To me, House of Daisies is an 1,100-square-foot woman’s closet,” she said. “It is tiny, and that’s what I wanted, and I wanted to make it very personalized.”
Customer service is a priority for the owner of House of Daisies, a boutique clothing store located at 4400 Colleyville Blvd., Ste. C, in Colleyville. The boutique sells clothing items, accessories, jewelry and handbags, but women come for more than shopping, owner Marybeth McIntyre said. Two chairs sit near the entrance where customers can sit and chat. “I have a lot of women who just come in and they come with a friend, and they have a glass of wine,” she said. “They shop and then they sit here and catch up.” The boutique opened in November 2022 and carries sizes from extra small to extra large.

COURTESY BOTTLECAP ALLEY ICEHOUSE GRILL
Bottlecap Alley Icehouse Grill is family-owned When Larry Marshall trucked down to College Station to visit his son, Wesley Marshall, at Texas A&M University around 2007, he didn’t know he would come back with the idea for a restaurant. The Marshalls spent time at the local bars, where he experienced their fun, family environments. This led them to Bottlecap Alley, a sea of old bottle caps nestled between the Dry Bean Saloon and the Dixie Chicken bars. Larry was inspired to create a family-oriented restaurant where people of all ages could enjoy time with loved ones. With a concept in mind and an idea for the name, he started Bottlecap Alley Icehouse Grill in Grapevine in 2010. The details The goal was to create an environment and a

menu that could appeal to everyone and foster family connection while serving high-quality food, said Lee Marshall, who manages recipe design and quality control for the restaurant. The team outt- ted Bottlecap Alley with TVs for sports fans, pool tables, a jukebox for cranking tunes and a variety of classic arcade games for kids, he said. The menu strives for diversity to appeal to a wide array of tastes. This has led to creations such as the Cure Burger—an American cheeseburger served with fried egg, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo— and Ranch Hand Tacos—two corn tortillas stued with shredded brisket, grilled onions, pico de gallo, cilantro, Cotija cheese and a made-from-scratch jalapeno ranch dressing.
