New museum rounds up history of Montgomery County Sheri’s Oce

Sheris in the early years acted in dual roles, including justice of the peace and coroner, Henderson said. In the 1850s, sheris had a cattle rustling unit. In the 1860s, Mont- gomery County sheris created an educational program for freed slaves. The museum, located at 2359 Holloman St., Conroe, held a soft opening Dec. 14.
