Why are you running?

Why are you running?

Raising my children in Collin County, and watching them and their peers attend Collin College, I am passionate about providing that same opportunity to all children. A strong education is a springboard for suc- cess in the working world, and I am running to make sure that springboard is aordable, convenient, well-respected and available to the whole community. I’m running because the college needs course corrections. ... I have dedicated my working life to the cause of public educa- tion, and I deeply believe in the power of education to transform lives. I’m proud to do my part for the community. I will be active, involved, and committed to any issues that aect the community, and I will serve as a servant leader.

When I ran in 2017, I wanted to represent women and educators on the board. I had worked at Collin College while I was going to school for my doctorate, so I knew what a bed- rock the college is to Collin County. Now, as the incumbent, I’m even more rmly convinced of all the impressive ways the college already serves the community, and I have so many ideas about how we can get even better. With my background in higher education, I was encouraged to run by my contemporar- ies. I began to review the board meetings, and I could see areas where my involvement could be benecial to the college.

I love Collin College and have been advocating for and partnering with the college for several years. I was approached by concerned citizens about running for the board because of my discernment, integrity and experience. I advo- cated in Austin for the college to get approval for bachelor degree programs. I initiated clinical aliation degrees at my hospitals with the college. My sons both took advantage of their dual credit courses.
