McKinney City Council, District 2

McKinney City Council, At Large, Place 2

Why are you running?

Why are you running?

I am running for City Council to help maintain the great achievements already made in this city and work with council to improve in areas where needed. I’ve served in this community for many years. I chaired the MEDC board, and I’m a Leadership graduate. I’m a servant leader who is running for City Council for the right reasons, which is to continue to improve the quality of life for all citizens in McKinney. I am an experienced oil and gas entrepreneur who understands what it takes to run a successful organization. I am a small-business owner, purchasing The Pantry Restaurant and the historic Hope Hardware Building in 2001. With this experience in mind, I am uniquely qualied to serve McKinney on the City Council. My family and I have made McKinney our home, and it is my time to give back to the community that we love.

I’ve loved being civically involved for the last 12 years. My business allows me exibility, and be- ing on council demands that. I have few hobbies to occupy my free time, and we have made lots of friends who work to make McKinney better. McKinney is home to all three of our granddaugh- ters. I want to play my part in making sure that McKinney continues to be great.

Why are you running?

Why are you running?

I am running for school board to improve academic standards and promote student success. I am not only a stakeholder, but I am a parent. I want to ensure all children are provided the opportunity to receive a quality education that sets them up for their future. Whether that is a higher education, joining the military, attending a trade school or entering the workforce.

I would like to continue to serve on the school board in McKinney ISD because I know the importance of having a great school system. I want all McKinney ISD stu- dents to thrive just as my own two children did in our school system. We cannot have a great city without great schools. There is a concerted eort to demonize our teachers and librarians, defund public schools, and dismantle our schools.

I believe in public education! I believe there are those today who would like to destroy public education. I want to keep that from happening. I believe that my background of experience in education is a benet as I carry out my du- ties as a school trustee. I want to ensure that McKinney ISD continues a path of excellence with continued goals of improvement in academic excellence for all students.

When we moved to McKinney, it boasted a highly rated school district, but now it is listed as a B-rated district. (bit.ly/McKinney ISD2022Rating) Given the media attention regarding critical race theory’s inuences in education I was surprised by the district’s only reply, “It’s illegal to teach CRT,” but when the illegal material was presented to them, nothing was done. With the children and their success in mind, I decided to run for Place 5.
