She said the state expects students to move up one level every year. “It takes ve to seven—sometimes up to eight—years for children to acquire this language,” Upshaw said. “It doesn’t happen overnight.” CISD did not meet the target for this area in TELPAS.
CONROE ISD Conroe ISD is examining how to improve the academic success at several campuses aer receiving its - Texas Education Agency scores. On Oct. , the CISD board of trustees reviewed the TEA’s - accountability scores and Texas English Language Prociency Assess- ment System, or TELPAS, results. The TEA scores rate a district’s performance based on student performance and progress, according to the TEA website. “Certainly, there are areas that we celebrate,” Deputy Superintendent Chris Hines said. “And there’s always areas ... [where] we can improve.” Overall, the district earned a B from the TEA. Tamika Taylor, director of assessment and school improvement, said the district did not earn an overall A rating because districts with one or more schools rated D or lower cannot receive anything above a B. Taylor said two schools—Creighton Elementary School and San Jacinto Elementary School—received D ratings, and several schools improved

Tomball ISD postpones opening of district stadium; new date undetermined
TOMBALL ISD An August opening for the Tomball ISD dis- trict stadium and community center has been postponed, according to district ocials. An updated opening date has not been announced. The new ,-seat district stadium and community center, funded by a million bond referendum voters approved in November , is planned for the district complex underway at Cypress-Rosehill Road and the Grand Parkway, which will also feature a new elementary school, a new junior high school, and wastewater and water treatment plants. The total of all costs related to the new stadium and community center is . million, according to information from the Nov. board of trustees meeting. “Original plans from architects and contractors projected a timeline and opening date of August , just in time for the rst game of the football season,” Superintendent Martha Salazar-Zamora said in a letter to parents Sept. . “Unfortunately, construction delays do occur, in particular for major projects like our stadium and community center.” Salazar-Zamora said in the letter the district is uncertain of when an updated opening date for the stadium and community center will be announced. Delays stem from dif- culties in obtaining land access and construction permits from Harris County and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers,

according to the letter. “We are working tirelessly to push this project through to the next stages of construction,” Salazar-Zamora said in the letter to parents. Located in the same complex, the new elementary school is slated to open in August with the new junior high school slated to open in August , a delay from the original timeline of August . During a special meeting Nov. , the board of trustees discussed naming the new schools as well as the commu- nity center and district stadium. However, no names were decided at the meeting, said Allison Suarez, director of communications and marketing.
